No Songkran (Water Festival) This Year in THAILAND
Every year, the water festival attracts a lot of tourists from all over the world to visit Thailand, which normally takes place during Mid-April as a long holiday. Having to make a choice between the Economy and Health, the Government has announced to ban water splash this year. Thai people are being convinced to celebrate Songkran in a traditional Thai way by pouring water over the hands of older people as a symbol of respect, engaging in religious activities like bathing Buddha statues, and traveling to visit families in their hometown.
Many businesses and the tourist industries have understood the gravity of the current pandemic situation and are willing to wait for the Government to reopen the country again; which is planned for October 2021.
For now, domestic tourists are playing an important role in the tourism and hospitality industry with the hope that the foreign tourists will be back again by the end of this year.
